Game of Rath - Game Concept & prototype ramblings!


Greetings! Welcome to Game of Rath dev blog! Everything is fresh and new, Game prototype just barely out of oven!

So, let me introduce myself: Im Mauno, long time game developer, like Loooong. I have been doing game development in serious companies, and now enjoying some time off from harsh duties deep in pixel mines.

Ok, cut to the chase: Like 2 weeks ago, I got an idea of card battler mechanic, that felt simple but yet seem to have potential for somewhat complex system and enjoyable gameplay. Easy to learn, hopefully not too easy to master.

The basic idea is simple: players have a deck of cards, and set amount of cards "in hand" and on your turn you use 2 card, First one to set the Attack (or heal) type, and then second card will "boost the value of first one" So each cards has 2 Values: Primary & Boost.

There will be also concurring Damage. e.g. Fire cards  can burn the hapless victim for several rounds of play. You get the Idea, I'm sure.

Thats It! - well for starters. My plan is to add proper questline/campaign around the core gameplay. I'll talk about that in upcoming dev blogs.


Note: I'm making this game as a solo developer, and leaning on generative AI in coding and asset production. If you are interested how to effectively develop professional level games with help of AI, stick around, I probably will write some  fast "how-tos" at some point
